Old Tapes 03:26
Some of your dreams will die Those that were worth a fight They will burn like old love does Like old love letters do Are we to let love go? let love know It's always not so good for us I ran up all my tab on us Some of you sacrificing So much that I'm denying Are we to let love go? let love know And then you meet the ones The ones that were meant to be Are we dead yet? Ke zama go itebatsa (Trying to forget)
2.
Warrior 03:25
In me a little warrior Goes forth & stalls Dreaming of all that's glorious It was a bit too loud I missed my calling Tsotsi kgale o wa (Hustler you’ve been falling) So you cry a little more... Warrior things is Things are looking down In me a little warrior Goes forth & stalls Dreaming of all that's glorious It was a bitter love I missed my calling
3.
Vaya Le Nna 03:26
Things will fall apart As will the continents of my heart And far and very far We tripped and flipped the day we met here Just like tripped on why is it you came here The next step is demanding and numbing Left standing here: I’m dreaming of nowhere So vaya le nna... (Go with me)
4.
Confided 06:03
Even though you confided Every shape Every sign You should know you will find it You can go I won’t mind With all your force between your lines Stay the course Stay behind Even though you confided With every shame With every smile You erase You define them Even though you decided You alone
5.
Mungu 04:15
You chose to see god in the clouds I seek him amongst folk And now you want to cry when i say I never found him I never found her I never found them But I’m surrounded Today I walked a colony of ants To its nest to get some rest And now you want to cry when i say I never fed them I never saw them I never harmed them But I’m surrounded A ke tsamayeng (Let me go) Le a nthiba: le a ntshira ( you are blocking me) A ke tsamayeng Love is wondering which heavens we go to
6.
Resilient 04:29
Tse ke di batlang di fete(My wants may pass me) Tse Ke di tshabang di mpitse (My fears may call me) Don’t go hunting anymore The god of those that don’t get Has your back and has my back Leave our hearts hanging on his door Don’t go running along the shore Be the first to know what it’s for Diving down in shallow ends Leaves your heart wanting more I live alone You live alone We live alone to stay afloat Resilient You didn’t save my life this morning You helped to kill the one before this Resilient
7.
Severin 02:55
The sky's opened up a bit These eyes never been as close to this infinite Where my eyes rest their feet I eat from there Blue is my eyes truth I move towards a new move Limited was my love for you Limiting I was limited
8.
So who do I tell now? how my heart took a stroll around And found the sweetest man aboard A flight scheduled for a life abroad Who do I tell now? Enjoy it Tuck in under the armpit of it I spend my mornings Forgetting about you I get to bed I’m wasted On what I barely tasted Day jobs have got me for days (make a little cash so I can blow it all on you) I’m willing to wait for you to slip and say it first say it first man... Say it faster than the days that became a week became our last week days love has got me For days (making so much love I could throw it all away)
9.
Tsoma 04:31
Someone will know And love you a decade before Before anyone or even you know Before any war God or evil you know They loved you before. Peo se e fitlhilwe(You hid a seed) Mmung wa me(In my soil) E o tsela re e fitile(We’ve passed that road) Morago fa le Ga re tsofale (Back there where we don’t age) Ga re tsofale (We don’t age) Ga re tsoma (When we hunt)
10.
Brew 03:56
In front of you The front of me I turned and tossed the day’s light out your eyes/life We turned, we tossed the day’s light Dangerous Mind Your smile was bought With two pints of beer Two minds that fear Each other’s highs And maybe you will tell the truth Of how lonely it’s been here for you

about

Thaba is a collaboration between South African singer/songwriter Khusi Seremane and American producer/musician Gabriel Cyr. Tragically in July 2020, while the two were working with Soundway to prepare their debut record, Seremane died after battling health issues for several years, just a few days past his 41st birthday.

Thaba's sound reflects a sonic duality referencing the double pop heritage of Mbaqanga and Bubblegum artists like The Soul Brothers, Paul Ndlovu and Pat Shange, alongside traces of Roxy Music, Grace Jones, Sade, and Talk Talk. The result is a very modern, electronic, layered, introspective and at times jazz-tinged production.

Connected by a shared love of kwaito, 90's R&B, and classic downtempo, Seremane and Cyr collaborated for a decade after meeting online in the halcyon days of Myspace Music. While the pair initially planned for Seremane to guest on a Teleseen track, their ideas evolved into an entire record. Their debut, Eyes Rest Their Feet, was created remotely over several years, with the core recorded during a 2016 studio session in Cape Town.

After returning to New York, Cyr honed these recordings with several Brooklyn-based musicians, calling upon members of Antibalas, Underground System, Midnight Magic, Loboko and others. Eyes Rest Their Feet spans genres as well as geography, touching on elements of soul, reggae, synth-pop and beyond, with lyrical themes that explore loneliness and the challenges of human relationships.

In Cape Town, Seremane was a pharmacist by day and crafted introspective afro-soul by night as Lebadi and a member of the musical collective Tapedeck Circuitry.

Cyr, based in New York, primarily performs under the guise Teleseen focusing on left-field electronic music with global influences, and works as a producer and engineer for other artists.

Seremane’s experience early in his career, working at a public hospital in a Cape Town township put him in a state of constant reflection on the harsh realities of life. He was a music fanatic, a raconteur, and a wordsmith, described repeatedly in eulogies by those around him as elegant, charismatic and enigmatic. However, the occasionally reticent and un-egotistical side of his personality kept his talents fixated to the scene in his Cape Town neighborhood of Woodstock, and to the city at large for many years. Just as the album that the duo had been polishing and honing was being prepared for release to the world, the devastating news of his death reached all of those that loved, respected, and cherished Seremane’s uniqueness.

Shortly before Seremane’s untimely death, Cyr and Seremane were in the process of composing new music.

Eyes Rest Their Feet not only represents the culmination of Seremane’s work as an artist but also a meditation on the transformative power of love and the impermanence of all things.
